How this is worked out

  • Each notice type is a rule row with its section, its primary source, the date it takes effect and the date it was last reviewed.
  • "Within N days" excludes the starting day (General Clauses Act, s.9), so the last day is the start date plus N. Months end on the same date N months later, or the month's last day when there is none.
  • Working days for GST registration notices are Monday to Friday. Public holidays are not known to the calculator.
  • A last day on a weekend is never moved. You get a warning instead, so you can file earlier.
  • Where part of a rule could not be confirmed against the Act or Rules, that part shows no date and is listed under "Not verified". The calculator never fills the gap with a guess.
  • Where the notice itself sets the date (142(1), 143(2), DRC-01), the date you enter from the notice is used and labelled "As stated in your notice".

Questions CAs ask

Is the reply date counted from the date of the notice or the date I received it?
It depends on the rule. GST registration notices (REG-03, REG-17, REG-23) and ASMT-10 count from the date of service. Section 148A(b) counts from the date the notice is issued. The calculator asks only for the dates the chosen rule uses, and takes service as the notice date if you leave it blank.
What if the last day falls on a weekend or a holiday?
The calculator does not move the date. It warns you when the last day is a Saturday or Sunday, so you can file earlier. Public holidays are not checked, and working days for GST registration notices are counted Monday to Friday.
Why is there no date for a 142(1) or 143(2) notice?
The law does not fix a reply period for them; the officer states it in the notice. Enter the date or the number of days printed on the notice and the calculator works from that. For 143(2) it also gives the last date by which the notice could be served, from the date the return was filed.
Does it cover the extended GST limitation dates for older years?
No. Time limits for FY 2017-18 to FY 2023-24 were extended by notifications and by the Finance (No. 2) Act 2024. The calculator shows no date for FY 2019-20 and earlier and only the unextended date for FY 2020-21 to FY 2023-24, with a warning.
Is anything I enter stored?
No. The dates stay in your browser and in the page address, so you can bookmark or share a result. Nothing is sent to Charter AI.
