An invoice is in my Busy purchase register but not in GSTR-2B: what should I check?
First re-download the GSTR-2B JSON from the portal. If the bill is still missing, check its voucher date, number, value, tax rate and tax amount, the party master (GSTIN and state), and that the purchase bill number in Busy is exactly the supplier's invoice number. If all of that is right, the supplier has probably not reported the invoice yet, which is a supplier-side gap that no entry in your books can fix.
Steps
Busy's FAQ gives the following sequence for a bill that is in the purchase register but does not appear against GSTR-2B.
- Re-download the JSON data from the portal using Transactions > GST Misc Utilities.
- Open the voucher and check the date, number and invoice value against the GSTR-2B row.
- Check that the tax rate and tax value in Busy match GSTR-2B.
- Open the party master and confirm the supplier's GSTIN is correct.
- Confirm the purchase bill number in Busy matches the supplier's invoice number as printed on the invoice.
- If everything matches, ask the supplier whether the invoice was reported in their GSTR-1 for that period.
Why the supplier side matters
Busy's FAQ notes that if the vendor has not uploaded the invoice to the portal, you may be unable to reconcile it and may not be able to claim the input tax credit. Section 16(2)(aa) of the CGST Act ties the credit to the invoice appearing in the details furnished by the supplier.
FAQs
Can I claim ITC on a bill that is not in GSTR-2B?
Under Section 16(2)(aa) the credit depends on the invoice appearing in the supplier's reported details, so a bill missing from GSTR-2B is normally held back until the supplier reports it. Check the current rules for your case.
Does a typo in the bill number cause this?
Yes. Busy's FAQ asks you to confirm the purchase bill number matches the supplier's invoice number, because a different format will not match the portal row.
